Adaptive cruise control
ACC is in common use on many vehicles today. This system enables you to automatically increase or decrease your car’s speed and allow your vehicle to maintain a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead. There are various versions of this technology. Some will lightly brake and increase you speed, some will stop your car altogether. The degree of this braking/accelerating will much depend on the style of your vehicles transmission, ie., a Manual or Automatic gearbox.
The information for this system is provided by a combination of sensors, radar and computer-connected cameras to monitor the road ahead. They are capable of reading and responding to any cars that are in front of you in your lane. Currently these systems are not optimised for use in bad weather.
